Two Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand is the number of people in the UK whose gender identity is not the same as the gender they were assigned at birth. (ONS, 2021)
Each mark, stuck manually into the page by a typewriter across these 58 sheets of paper, represents one of these people. The aim of this piece is to show how while a minority, there are a significant number of Trans+ people living in the UK who deserve the same rights, access to healthcare, recognition, and protection as everyone else.
A group of people in the hundreds of thousands should be far too big for the government to scapegoat and neglect as they have done for decades, and continue to do after this piece was created.
